Neuroscientist of the Month: Nora Wolcott

For our Neuroscientist of the Month this April, we introduce Nora Wolcott, a PhD student at the Goard Lab at UC Santa Barbara in the United States.

Her PhD focusses on the circuit-level dynamics of memory and spatial coding. Specifically, she is interested in the hippocampus, and how factors like sex steroid hormones and mutated tau protein affect spatial navigation behaviour.

Nora recently released EstrousNet: the first GUI-based fully automated estrous stage classifier. EstrousNet, trained on data collected from labs across the globe, classifies the four estrous stages in living rodents with significantly higher accuracy than human examiners, with the goal of encouraging inclusion of female rodents in research.
